I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. Upon graduating from Roanoke-Benson high school in 2009, I decided to make my passions my career and enrolled at Millikin University, where I am anticipating to graduate with a degree in English literature in the spring of 2013. After graduating from MU, I plan on attending graduate school with the goal of earning a Ph.D. specializing in American literature.

I aspire to teach literature and do research at a college or university, where I can work to explore the importance of literature in our lives. I believe that an education in literature provides students with strong abilities in writing and criticial thinking, as well as broadened perspectives of our world.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading just about any kind of book - from sci-fi to biography to fantasy to the canon. Of course, I don't spend my entire life with my nose in a book. I also love to spend time with those I love (including my dog and cat), watch Bollywood and science-fiction films (though rarely science-fiction Bollywood films), and take much needed naps. I also enjoy travelling; in the fall of 2011, I had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad in London, England, through a Millikin based program where I studied at places including Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Over-seas, I developed a fascination with how other cultures understand America, fueling me to look more closely at American cultural artifacts after returning to the US.
